The course of Degree in computer science of the Faculty of Sciences has held the 9th October 2003 a session of degree that will be remembered with particular interest because a thesis of degree of remarkable technological interest has been discussed. Within of the proper activities of the course of degree the formative stage are foreseen at firms that develop Informatics thematic. The capillary and constant action of the coordinator of the course of degree, prof Giovanni Pizzimenti, encouraged by the head of a department, prof Giacomo Maisano, outstretched to the individualization of firms that intend to draw up stipulation of collaborated with the course of degree, that allows the students to frequent environments that they can give to him the knowledge of the world of the job. The title of the thesis developed by the student Pietro Ilacqua is: "Connection GPRS: Packets data transmission mobile on a network Server/Client with protocol TCP/IP on base Sony Ericsson M2mpower IDE. Supervisor prof Luigia Puccio business co - examiner Ing Giuseppe Pittari. The thesis expose the realization of a wireless application that allows the transfer data on GSM/GPRS network with protocol communication TCP/IP among a Server connected to the Internet network and a mobile Client constantly connected to the GSM/GPRS network that is geographically free to move on the territory. Conditioned liberty only from the coverage of the GSM/GPRS network and from the international stipulations of roaming among the operators. For the realization of the project of thesis initially has been effected a search on the documentation related to the GSM/GPRS network; and subsequently the discovery of a builder that the made available a radio device Open, that is with possibility of planning and modify of the software and hardware caracteristics, suitable to the demands of study. The search developed at the ISE Engineering led to the discovery of the Sony Ericsson GR47, innovative technology confidentially granted from the same Sony Ericsson and limitedly to the purpose of the thesis. The job of search and experimentation led to make converse in way technically reliable the devices and going over the initial objective. With this realization is come to the possibility to pass data on mobile GSM/GPRS network overcoming the imposed limit by the actual GSM network of 9.6 Kbpses arriving an thin to experimental value approximately of 60 Kbpses, in synthesis therefore a frequency band comparable with the actual band of fixed telephone network (6 times more great than of communication on GSM network). All that makes possible, with the actual technologies and the actual resources of network, transmissions video and other "heavy" transmissions immediately without to wait the UMTS. Besides, a lower cost of communication has been found with the actual rates, in fact experimentally we has verified a cost 180 times more small than to that of the GSM. How much gotten can be considered as the first footstep toward the realization of manifold applications that use this technology and the relative advantages introducing a great speed of transmission and a reduction of the costs for the industry that will have to realize applied . Results old so, that technological step that has allowed that the GPRS, technically available from some years, can be finally employed. Two representatives of Sony Ericsson Andrew Suttle and Giuseppe Cardinale have assisted to the session of degree.
